Not long ago Korea experienced massive electrical failures caused by the outage of power demand. Many systems fell apart without a supply of electricity, such as hospital, factory, traffic signals and so on.
It let us know that what an important agent the electricity is in the life of today.
Not contingently, many countries including many developed countries also experienced the massive electrical failures ever, and it’s almost impossible to predict that when and where will be an accident yet.
So we need the smart grid to improve the efficiency, reliability, economics, and sustainability of electricity services.
Smart gird has been widely used in eco-industries in now days. Our group will focus on that how to used smart grid to power the electric cars, and then open up the electric car industry in Korea.
1-2. Definition of Smart Grid
A Smart Grid is a next generation electricity network in which two-way exchange of information on power generation and consumption is conducted in real time, through the convergence of the existing electrical grid with ICT.
In this way, Smart grids optimize energy efficiency.

Response of Environmental issues
According to a survey (2011.10.12), Korea’s carbon dioxide emissions, which can cause global warming, ranked No.7 in the world. And the growth of the amount of CO2 emission ranked No.3. So Korea joined the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and working on the solution of this issue. According this, Korea needs new energy and new technology for energy-use very insistently, such as smart grid.
Efficiency of Energy-use
The electricity consumption usually varies substantially because of the factors such as seasonal changes and the fluctuation of time. It causes that the inefficiency issues of energy-use. We can save 6-13% power by using the smart grid, save 1.8 trillion every year.
